Call for Entries 2026
Regulations
For the Global Perspectives Film Conference, feature films, web productions, and television productions may be submitted if they:
-
Were released after January 1, 2024
-
Address socio-political topics in regions of the Global South, including cross-border impacts of globalization and crises;
-
Are or can be made available for (non-)commercial film and educational use in German-speaking countries.
There are no restrictions on film length, and all moving-image formats are eligible: feature and documentary films, TV documentaries and series, TV and web reports, as well as short films. A maximum of three films per filmmaker, company, or editorial team may be submitted.
A jury will decide on inclusion in the official program of the Film Conference and the Special Recommendations category, which also includes nominations for the various film awards. Contact persons listed in the submission form will be notified promptly about the jury’s decisions regarding acceptance and nominations.
Approximately 20 of the submitted productions will be recommended by a professional jury in the Special Recommendations category for educational and film literacy purposes and will be promoted accordingly. A selection of these recommended films will be screened during the conference at the cinema of the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, accompanied by guest discussions and Q&A sessions.
After the Film Conference, an Online Catalog will document all submitted films with keywords for topics and countries. This catalog allows educational institutions and cinemas to navigate the program and request access to current productions from the rights holders for (non-)commercial and educational purposes.
Film Award Global Perspectives
The Film Award Global Perspectives honors filmmakers in three categories:
-
Best Documentary
-
Best Newcomer Film
-
Best TV Documentary
The nominated works should compellingly highlight the realities of life in countries of the Global South and offer audiences a change in perspective.
Submission Instructions
A screener of the submitted film, required for jury review, must be available by April 30, 2026, with a password. The online submission should include a short catalog description and a film still, either uploaded or sent by email. For films without German or English subtitles, a dialogue list in one of these languages is required. Submitted films will be documented in an online catalog at the start of the Film Conference.
By submitting, all screening rights for presentation to experts and special audiences (jury, selected film presentations during the conference) are granted to the organizers of the Global Perspectives Film Conference. No costs or obligations arise for the organizer.
Films included in the program or online catalog for educational use must not contain illegal content, discriminatory material, pornographic or glorified violence, or content that obviously and inappropriately offends religious beliefs. The decision on inclusion lies with the professional jury.
The Executive Committee of the AG Filmtage Globale Perspektiven and the Bundesverband kommunale Filmarbeit e.V. make final decisions on all questions or uncertainties arising from these regulations. Legal jurisdiction is Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
By submitting films to the Global Perspectives Film Conference, the submitter acknowledges and accepts these regulations.
