Global Perspectives in Film
Global Perspectives in Film was established as a working group in 2024 within the Steering Committee for Global Perspectives in Film. Active since 1972, the Steering Committee brings together interest groups from the German film and media industry, aid and human rights organizations, and educational institutions.
The working group consists of filmmakers and practitioners active in cultural film and educational work. At the heart of their mission is the question: How can a diverse and inclusive approach to film be realized when films produced in Germany remain predominantly Eurocentric?
The aim is to ensure that the production and distribution of outstanding films on global issues – both for theatrical release and non-commercial use – receive appropriate support from film funding institutions. Simultaneously, the group seeks to strengthen the commissioning of films by public broadcasters to ensure they fully meet their programming mandate in this area.
